None is faithless,
if the have faith in themselves.

Bhai Nand Lal Ji

The first step towards faith is to have faith in yourself. This is the stepping stone to realising true faith, peace and contentment. Believe in yourself. A lack of self-convictioncan only lead to inner frustration.

The Sikh Code of Conduct

| Print |

The original book of the Sikh code of conduct is called the
“Rehat Maryada” and is written in Punjabi.

Below are important instructions which Sikhs are expected to follow:

Sikhism is religion of love, service and sacrifice.

Sikhs believe there is only one God.

Sikhs are not to practise in any kind of rituals, omens, superstitions, fasts or the worshipping of idols.

Sikhs must reject all distinctions of religion, race, caste, colour, creed or status.

Sikhs must keep their hair uncut.

Sikhs must not eat meat, fish or eggs at all.

Sikhs must not take alcohol, tobacco, drugs or any form of intoxication.

Sikhs must not commit adultery.

Sikhs believe in a casteless and egalitarian society, guaranteeing equal status to men and women from every walk of life.

Sikhism is a social religion.  Ethics, morality, selfless service and sacrifice are the very basis of this religion.

Evolution of the spirit is not possible without righteous conduct and adherence to social morality.

Sikhs must pray for the good of all living beings irrespective of ones religion, creed or colour.

One should be God conscious, leading an active householder’s life, earn ones living through honest means and share ones earnings with those who are in need.

According to Guru Nanak Dev Ji, “God is never born, nor does he die.”  He is AJUNI.

It is a Sikh parent’s duty that their children learn Punjabi and all about Sikhism along with other formal education. ‘puta mata di asis’ this is a mothers blessing for her child.
