Egotism

Egotism and possessiveness are very enticing; egotistical pride has plundered everyone

Guru Nanak Dev Ji
1469-1539

Egotism is one of the biggest obsticles in achieving a state of spiritual bliss. Those who forever think and say 'I', can never appreciate what they have or respect the feelings and ways of other people. Stop your ego; think of others, have love in your heart and meditate as often as possible.

What is Kirtan?

Kirtan is the devotional singing of the praises of God in melody and rhythm.  The meaning and significance of the words of Gurbani need to be understood totally and sincerely.

According to Sri Guru Granth Sahib Ji, the praises of God can be sung, contemplated, uttered, intoned, listened to, discoursed on or played on musical instruments.  The main aim is to merge with Him.

Kirtan promotes a balanced state of mind and is an aid to enable the individual to attune oneself with the Infinite.

The Guru’s commended Kirtan as the most effective way of spiritual progress and fulfilment.  In Kirtan more important than the musical element, is the scriptural message (Gurbani).  The feeling of love and devotion for God and Gurbani is also important.  Kirtan must be accompanied by true belief and sincere feeling for God.
